How do I get there?

We are located at 2010 Congress Street in Lafayette, Indiana; across from Oakland Elementary School. Lafayette is about 60 miles northwest of the center of Indianapolis via U.S. 52 or I-65. Use the map below to get directions to Congress Street UMC.

Where do I park?

All parking is on the church property with some spaces on the north side and a large parking lot on the west side of the church. The primary entrances are the west entrances. There are handicap parking spaces located in the north side lot of the church located near the north accessible entrance.

Please be considerate of others, particularly our seniors on canes and walkers, and be careful not to block other cars.

What do I bring?

Bring yourself and maybe a Bible, if you wish to follow along with the readings from your own.  There are also Bibles and hymnals in the pews.

When do I need to arrive?

Worship service is at 10:00 a.m. with Sunday school at 9:00. Come a few minutes early to park, hang up coats and stop in the narthex for information.

What do adults wear?

You are welcome to wear whatever you are comfortable in. There is no “dress code” at Congress Street UMC. Some people wear their “Sunday Best,” while others “Go casual”.

What do children wear?

Children should wear comfortable clothes. During Sunday school they may spend time playing on the floor, or work with art supplies. Sometimes, they may go outside.

What is the service like?

The 10:00 service is more of a “traditional service” with readings, special music, traditional hymns, prayers and a sermon. The Worship service takes place in the Sanctuary.

  • Readings and Songs – All readings, songs or prayers that the congregation may recite are printed in either the bulletin that is handed out at the service, in the hymnals and Bibles located in the pews, or projected on screen.
  • Communion – On the first Sunday of the month we hold Communion.  You do not need to be a member of the church to participate, nor do you need to feel obligated to participate. Communion is the time when Christians consume consecrated bread and grape juice as memorials of Jesus Christ’s death and use it as a time to reflect on our relationship with God.
  • Offering – We do not believe in asking visitors to feel obligated to give to the offering.  Also, do not feel that you would be the only one not placing anything in the offering plate, since many of our members give monthly or some other schedule and do not place an offering in the plate each week. Offering may go towards the general operation of the church or towards special mission projects on any given Sunday.
  • Sermon – Sermons are Bible-based either on a theme that may span several Sundays or on a topic that will stand on its own.

May our child stay with us during the service?

Yes, but children are also invited our to our Nursery and Child Care which is held during the worship hours.

Is your church accessible to people in wheelchairs?

Yes. We have handicap parking spaces in the north parking lot of the church. The church is accessible via ramp to the main floor. Handicap restrooms are located in the east hallway near the chapel.
